Insights and Research

My research lies at the intersection of public policy, nonprofit management, and disaster resilience. I am particularly interested in:

  • Critical and decolonial perspectives on disaster resilience

  • The impact of neoliberalism on nonprofit organizations and voluntary action

  • Work-life balance and burnout in the nonprofit sector

  • The role of data and technology in nonprofit management

  • Gender dimensions in nonprofit and public service work

Teaching and Education Philosophy

Education is a powerful tool that has the ability to empower individuals and transform lives. It provides knowledge, skills, and opportunities that can lead to personal growth, career success, and societal development. I firmly believe this and work tirelessly to elevate the voices and learning opportunities for my students. Don’t take my word for it though.

In 2025, a student driven committee voted me “The Outstanding Teacher of the Year” within the School of Planning, Policy and Management at the University of Oregon. This huge honor was made possible by my colleagues support, my student’s feedback and willingness to learn with me, and my sincere desire not to tell, but to teach.

Regarding my classes:

“His approach - active, student-driven, responsive - was refreshing and truly incredible. I will take courses with him as much as I can.”

Regarding being an inspiration:

“You were the most inspiring professor I’ve ever had and I am so thankful to have taken courses with you.”
